Impact Statement |
Volunteer-driven from 'Day 1', the Stirling MILL is deeply rooted in community. Our volunteers give us a fantastic gift: their time & creativity. Whether it is through their musical, technical, or project management expertise, the Stirling MILL cannot operate & develop without our dedicated volunteers. • Volunteers designed & implemented the program. • Volunteers donated the instruments, repaired, cleaned & catalogued them. • Volunteers deliver them from one Library to another, so you can pick up your instrument loan from your local Public Library. There are many ways to get involved at the MILL, even if you can’t play an instrument. We welcome your commitment in whatever way you are able. Possibilities range from working with instruments through office tasks, publicity/promotion & other ‘behind the scenes’ input. (Proximity to Stirling may be essential for some roles, but not all. If you have skill & experience you would like to offer, please get in touch.) |
Description |
Musical Instrument maintenance and repair: The Stirling MILL maintains a collection of over 400 musical instruments and accessories. That’s a lot of gear to keep in top working condition. There are only a few of us ‘wrangling’ the lending collection: cleaning & testing instruments and gear returned from lending, plus in-house TLC, reconditioning and repairs for items in our existing collection and prepping new instrument donations for addition to the inventory. It’s a steady stream of work with varying priorities as we have ability, facility, experience and budget. When necessary, we are fortunate in professional assistance from instrument makers and repair services. None of us who are part of the MILL knows everything about everything that needs to be done. We do our best to keep up, but good help is always welcome. Here are some areas where the MILL could use additional specialized volunteer assistance. • Electric Guitars – someone who loves, lives, and breathes Teles & Strats, Les Pauls, and... • Bass Guitars • Amps & Electronics, FX, pedals, etc. • Brass and Woodwinds • Drum Sets • Orchestral Strings: violins, violas, cellos Like everything at the MILL, there’s a whole lot of learning, all the time. There is potential for training and learning new skills for applicants with suitable abilities and interests. |
