I don't believe I've ever had a volunteer experience where I felt such a personal connection to what I was doing, and it has been one of the best volunteer experiences that I've ever had.” |
Description | Vision Mates provide regular, one-to-one assistance and companionship for a person who is blind or partially sighted. Matches are made with someone who lives close to your home, school or work. You visit once a week for a couple of hours to assist with tasks like reading, errands (like groceries and shopping), going for walks, and socializing. |
Training Details | Volunteers will be required to complete the Volunteer Orientation that includes how to be a sighted guide, along with AODA training and the Volunteer Code of Conduct. |
Working Conditions | This position occurs in the client's home and in the community. |
Duration | 7 - 12 months |
Timing | Anytime |
Time Detail | Volunteers are asked to commit to 2 hours once a week for 6 months or more. |
