Description What is a Scouter?

A Scouter is an adult volunteer who helps run exciting, hands-on programs for youth (ages 5–17) in a safe and welcoming environment. Scouters encourage teamwork, creativity, and outdoor adventure while teaching life skills and fostering a sense of community.

What You’ll Do:
• Support Activities: Help plan and lead games, crafts, outdoor adventures, and other activities. For Youth Aged 8-10
• Encourage Growth: Mentor youth as they develop confidence, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ensure Safety: Work as part of a team to create a safe and inclusive space for everyone.
• Learn and Grow: Participate in free training opportunities provided by Scouts Canada to build your skills and knowledge.
Training Details Training Requirements to Become a Scouter
1. Scouts Canada Screening Process
Before beginning your training, all volunteers must complete:
• Volunteer Application: Submit an application through Scouts Canada’s website.
• Police Record Check (PRC): Includes a Vulnerable Sector Check to ensure the safety of youth.
• References: Provide two references who can confirm your suitability for working with youth.
2. Mandatory Training Modules
After passing the screening, you’ll complete free online training through the Scouts Canada David Huestis Learning Centre. Modules include:
• Scouting Fundamentals: An introduction to Scouting’s mission, methods, and structure.
• Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders: A short course focused on creating respectful and inclusive spaces.
• Child and Youth Safety: A guide to Scouts Canada’s safety policies and procedures.
• Safe Scouting for Scouters: Training on risk management, first aid awareness, and emergency procedures.
Working Conditions Typically 1.5–3 hours a week for meetings and occasional weekend events or camps.

Time Detail We do have Seasonal Camps, based on Volunteers availability and interests.
