Volunteers will feel that they've made a difference in their local community by supporting the Alzheimer Society of Hastings-Prince Edward.
All funds raised stay local in support of programs, supports, services and advocacy for those living in our community with dementia and their care partners.
Description A Minds in Motion Program Assistant provides support in a variety of ways during Minds In Motion sessions. Minds in Motion sessions are for people living with dementia and their care partners.
Tasks/Responsibilities:
Volunteers have the responsibility to assist the Minds In Motion Coordinator in a variety of different ways. Tasks can include:
• Help with the set up and clean up of refreshments, games, and activities for the program
• Assist with Minds in Motion® Coordinator to ensure activity participation and socialization. This may include spending one-on-one time with participants who need extra support
• Under the direction of the Certified Exercise Facilitator provide one-on-one support to participants during the physical activity component of the program.
• Assist with any other required tasks
Training Details The Alzheimer Society orientation process requires volunteers to read through and sign the Volunteer Handbook, Volunteer Service Agreement, Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Declaration of Conflicts of Interest. A Volunteer Application must be completed.
Mandatory training includes Health & Safety, Accessibility training and Dementia 101, 102, 103 training.
Participation in the training provided by the local Alzheimer Society, specific to Minds in Motion®,
including:
• Dementia Inclusive Choices for Exercise - DICE
• Minds in Motion program and evaluation overview
Specific training to the physical activity program curriculum
• Volunteers who are demonstrating the seated exercise will have specific training from the Certified Exercise Facilitator for modifications to complex moves
Duration 3 months or less
Timing Weekday - Daytime
Time Detail Prior to beginning a volunteer position at the Alzheimer Society, applicants must undergo the orientation process to enable them to volunteer (5 hours).
In-Person Minds in Motion
Three hours/week for eight weeks:
• 30-minute set up, 2-hour program, 30-minute take down, clean up and debrief

Belleville on October 2nd from 10:30 - 12:30 at the YMCA (433 Victoria Ave) and The Wellness Centre (265 Cannifton) from 1:30-3:30pm and will continue for the following 10 weeks.
